Higonokami Zenkou Silver (S) — Authentic Japanese Pocket Knife
Handmade in Miki by the renowned Nagao Kanekoma forge — the last official maker authorized to produce Higonokami knives.
Overview
The Zenkou Silver (S) is a compact, all-steel folding knife in the classic Higonokami tradition. Its small size (S) and minimalist, satin-finished steel handle make it ideal for everyday carry (EDC) or as a refined addition to a collection of traditional Japanese cutlery.
Blade — 55C Carbon Steel
- Steel: Carbon 55C — known for strength and easy sharpening.
- Edge: Clean, long-lasting cutting edge suitable for paper, cardboard, light woodworking and general EDC tasks.
- Blade length: ≈ 70 mm
- Thickness: ≈ 2 mm
- Estimated hardness: ~58 HRC
Handle — Full Steel (Silver)
- Chromed steel handle with a bright silver finish.
- Lightweight, slim and durable construction.
- Comfortable, minimalist grip with a smooth opening action.
- Develops a natural patina with time for an authentic vintage look.
- Handle length: 100 mm
Mechanism — Friction Folder
Traditional friction-folder design: no spring or lock. The blade stays open by friction between the tang and handle. The small lever (“chikiri”) enables quick, one-handed opening. Simple, reliable and built to last.
Use & Care
Recommended uses: Everyday carry (EDC), small cutting tasks, calligraphy trimming, and traditional knife use.
Care: Carbon steel is prone to rust. Wipe and dry the blade after use. Apply light oil (camellia or mineral oil) regularly. To adjust friction, gently tap the pivot pin with a mallet.
Note: Because this is carbon steel, oxidation (patina/rust) can occur — proper drying and light oiling reduce the risk.
